The AI Email Builder lets you generate complete, professional email templates by describing what you want in plain language. Powered by your configured AI provider, it creates fully structured templates ready for the drag-and-drop email builder.
Prerequisites
Before using the AI Email Builder, make sure you have configured your AI provider in Settings → AI. See the AI Settings documentation for setup instructions.
Accessing the AI Email Builder
You can access the AI Email Builder from two places:
- Campaign Template Step: When creating or editing a campaign, go to the Templates step and click the AI Email Builder option in the template selection screen.
- Inside the Email Builder: While editing a template in the drag-and-drop builder, click the AI icon in the header to open the AI Email Builder dialog.
Generating an Email Template
Step 1: Describe Your Email
In the prompt field, describe the email you want to create. Be as specific as possible for the best results. For example:
- “Create a promotional email for our summer sale with 30% off all products. Include a hero section, product highlights, and a call-to-action button.”
- “Design a welcome email for new subscribers to our SaaS platform. Include onboarding steps and a link to get started.”
- “Build a newsletter email announcing our new feature release with screenshots and a feedback survey link.”
The prompt must be at least 10 characters long.
Step 2: Set the Tone
Choose the writing tone for your email content:
| Tone | Best For |
|---|---|
| Professional | Business communications, B2B emails |
| Casual | Lifestyle brands, community updates |
| Friendly | Welcome emails, customer engagement |
| Urgent | Flash sales, limited-time offers |
| Formal | Legal notices, enterprise communications |
Step 3: Add Industry Context (Optional)
Specify your industry or business context (e.g., “E-commerce”, “SaaS”, “Healthcare”) to help the AI generate more relevant content and design choices.
Step 4: Customize Colors & Style
Expand the Customize Colors & Style section to fine-tune the visual design:
Brand Color: Choose from 8 preset colors (Navy, Red, Green, Purple, Amber, Teal, Pink, Charcoal) or use the color picker to select a custom brand color. This color is used for buttons, headings, links, and accent elements throughout the template.
Button Style: Select the button shape for your email:
- Rounded — Slightly rounded corners (6px border radius)
- Pill — Fully rounded, capsule-shaped buttons (50px border radius)
- Square — Sharp, square corners (0px border radius)
Step 5: Generate
Click the Generate button to create your template. The AI will process your request and generate a complete email template with multiple sections, including:
- Header with logo placeholder and optional social media icons
- Hero section with headline and call-to-action
- Content sections with text, images, and buttons
- Footer with company info, social links, and unsubscribe link
Generation typically takes 10–30 seconds depending on your AI provider and model.
Previewing and Using the Template
After generation, you’ll see a live preview of your email template rendered exactly as it will appear in recipients’ inboxes.
From the preview screen, you have three options:
- Use Template: Apply the generated template to your campaign. If accessed from a campaign, it saves the template and opens the email builder for further editing. If accessed from inside the builder, it loads the template directly into the editor.
- Regenerate: Go back to the form to adjust your prompt or settings and generate a new template.
- Back: Return to the form while keeping your current settings.
Template Structure
AI-generated templates use the same block system as the drag-and-drop email builder. The following block types are available:
| Block Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Text | Rich text content with headings, paragraphs, lists, and links |
| Button | Call-to-action buttons with primary, secondary, or tertiary styles |
| Image | Image placeholders with descriptive alt text (replace with your own images) |
| Divider | Horizontal lines to separate content sections |
| Social Media | Social media icon links (Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, etc.) |
Merge Tags in AI Templates
The AI Email Builder automatically includes relevant merge tags for personalization. Common merge tags used in generated templates include:
{{contact.first_name}}— Contact’s first name{{contact.last_name}}— Contact’s last name{{contact.email}}— Contact’s email address{{general.unsubscribe_link}}— Unsubscribe link (always included in footer){{general.site_name}}— Your site name
Editing After Generation
After applying an AI-generated template, you can fully customize it in the drag-and-drop email builder. All blocks, text, images, colors, and layouts are editable just like any manually created template. Replace placeholder images with your own, adjust copy, add or remove sections as needed.
Tips for Best Results
- Be specific: Instead of “create a marketing email”, describe the exact purpose, products, and desired sections.
- Mention your audience: Include who the email is for (e.g., “new subscribers”, “existing customers”, “enterprise clients”).
- Specify content: Mention specific products, features, offers, or information you want included.
- Set the right tone: Match the tone to your brand voice and the email’s purpose.
- Use industry context: Adding your industry helps the AI choose appropriate language and design patterns.
- Iterate: If the first result isn’t perfect, adjust your prompt and regenerate. Each generation produces a unique template.
